Law Society of Ireland announces the retirement of Director General Ken Murphy
President of the Law Society Michele O’Boyle leads tributes.
The President of the Law Society of Ireland Michele O鈥橞oyle has today (16 October 2020) announced that Director General Ken Murphy has notified her of his intention to retire in March of 2021. On his retirement, on his 65th birthday, Mr Murphy will have completed 26 years as Director General of the Law Society, and will have served the Law Society, in various roles, for a total of 40 years.
Leading tributes to Mr Murphy, Law Society President Michele O鈥橞oyle said, 鈥淜en has, as Director General, led with distinction for 26 years. In that time, he has represented the solicitors鈥 profession with integrity, dedication, wisdom and tremendous skill. I am certain that Ken鈥檚 contribution will leave a lasting legacy.鈥

Mr Murphy has guided the Law Society through a period of great change and expansion, from approximately 5,000 solicitors on the Roll of Solicitors when he took up office in 1995, to over 22,000 today.
