Law Society of Ireland visits Kerry

Local solicitor highlights increasing complexity of conveyancing.

Solicitors from across Kerry will come together in Killarney this Friday (11 September) for a learning and networking event designed with the needs of the local area in mind.

The Law Society of Ireland Skillnet, in partnership with Kerry Law Society, is hosting the Essential Practitioner Update 2015 event in the Muckross Park Hotel in Killarney. It鈥檚 part of a nationwide programme of cluster events planned throughout the country this year.

Teri Kelly, Law Society of Ireland Director of Member Services, says, 鈥淓xperts in topics such as conveyancing law, company law and Capital Acquisitions Tax will deliver the very latest updates and developments in these areas, which have been identified by local solicitors as being of key importance in the Kerry market.鈥

Local perspective

Patrick Mann, a solicitor based in Tralee, says that the business that comes across a solicitor鈥檚 desk can often be an indication of the health of the wider local economy.

鈥淲hat we are seeing is some recovery in the busier tourist areas, such as Dingle, Killarney and Kenmare. Tourism has been the key generator of revenue in Kerry since the downturn. Tourism should be developed further in order to boost the wider economy across the county.鈥

He says that house-buying remains sluggish in the county. 鈥淧roperty transactions have not picked up in Kerry to the extent they have in other parts of the country. On top of that, it has become far more complex to buy or sell a house since the recession, with new charges and potential legacy issues that require extra attention.鈥

鈥淚t is therefore important that anyone thinking of buying or selling a home seeks the advice of their solicitor early, to avoid costly delays or complications in the process.鈥

Kerry focus

The cluster events are a valuable resource as the content is designed for the local area. Teri Kelly says, 鈥淚n designing this seminar, we have been guided strongly by what the people of Kerry need from their solicitors.鈥

鈥淚t is important for the Law Society to reach out to our members around the country. These cluster events allow us to tailor our seminars around the particular needs of local solicitors and the local communities they serve.鈥
