Scam email with malware - AIB
19/09/2017 15:51:00The Society has been made aware of a scam email received by members of the profession, purportedly from AIB. The email is set out below.
The email requests the reader act on behalf of a client in respect of a claim. The email includes an attachment that purportedly contains supporting documents and further details.
Please note that this is a scam email. Opening the attachment is likely to result in malware being installed on that machine. The profession is also advised that they should always review the sender鈥檚 details before acting on any email. In this case, it would be noticed that the 鈥淩eply to鈥 address is to an Outlook account. This should immediately raise concerns as to the veracity of the email. Where such concerns arise, the profession are advised to contact the purported sender by a secure means, for example, phonecall or post, before acting on the email.
