Email alert – ‘Trent Holden’

30/05/2019 11:17:27

The Society is aware of a fraudulent email sent to law firms regarding property transactions.

鈥楾rent Holden鈥

The email purports to come from a law firm in Singapore, JCL Advisor and is signed off by 鈥淭rent Holden鈥 who is looking to sell and purchase properties through cash sale on behalf of himself and his wife.

The Society advises that you do not respond to the email and delete it immediately.

Purpose of the attack

The purpose of the email is to get the solicitor to respond which in turn generates a second automatic email that requests more information from the solicitor on their fees. It also includes a hyperlink stating that all documents relating to the transactions can be accessed there. No further email will be sent from the fraudster even with a follow up email.

The objective of the attack is to get the solicitor to click on the link and in doing so allow the fraudster to infiltrate the firm鈥檚 IT systems.

The Society reiterates its advice that care be taken when unsolicited emails are received and in particular where they are from unknown persons requesting you to download an item, click on a link or detail specific information.
