Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp has reached agreement with Facebook, under which the social-media giant will pay for content from the media group’s Australian titles.
The three-year deal comes weeks after Australia passed a law to make platforms such as Facebook and Google pay for news content.
Last month, a stand-off with the Australian government over the new law led to a shutdown of news links by Facebook Australia for five days.
Facebook lifted the ban after a compromise deal on key aspects of the legislation was hammered out.
Under an agreement reached in October 2019, News Corp’s US publications already receive payments in exchange for access to additional stories for Facebook News.
The company now has content deals in place with Facebook, Google and Apple. The value of the latest deal was not disclosed.
