McCann FitzGerald LLP has appointed Peter McLay as a partner in its energy group.
The firm says that the move comes amid growing demand for legal expertise in energy delivery and the structuring of complex projects, driven by planning reform, Ireland’s climate targets, and the ambitions set out in the National Development Plan.
McCann FitzGerald adds that its energy group advises on some of the most important infrastructure and energy developments in Ireland and internationally.
Valerie Lawlor (partner and head of the energy group) said that McLay brought “additional strength” to its team, particularly in matters relating to the regulatory framework for infrastructure delivery and energy transition.
“His technical insight and commercial acumen will be invaluable as clients navigate regulatory reform and the demands of Ireland’s energy transition,” she added.
McLay said that Ireland was entering “a critical phase” in its energy and infrastructure journey, adding that clients needed legal advice that was technically sound, commercially astute, and sector-aware.
His appointment follows a series of senior hires and promotions at McCann FitzGerald –including the recent appointments of Ciara O’Leary as partner in the investment-management group and Maedhbh Clancy as partner and head of knowledge.
In May, the firm announced nine new partners across its core practice areas.
McCann FitzGerald’s team now includes 96 partners and more than 650 lawyers and professional staff.
