Solicitors to hear updates on litigation issues

An annual conference to update solicitors on developments in litigation practice takes place next week.

The event is organised by Law Society Professional Training in collaboration with the Law Society’s Litigation Committee.

It takes place in the Green Hall Lecture Theatre, Law Society, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7 on Thursday 16 October (2pm to 5.15pm).

Three CPD hours are available – 2.5 general and 0.5 professional development and solicitor wellbeing.

The conference will provide litigators with an update on specific developments in the law and litigation practice.

AI and litigation

Topics will include:

  • Presentation by Mr Justice David Barniville (President of the High Court),
  • Update on representative actions,
  • AI and the litigation solicitor,
  • Well Within the Law,
  • Circuit Court applications under the Assisted-Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 and an update on discharges from wardship,
  • Personal-injuries update and the media landscape, and
  • Courts Service update.

Litigation Committee chair Ann McGarry (principal, Ann McGarry Solicitors) will chair the conference.

The speakers are:

  • Mr Justice David Barniville (President of the High Court),
  • Aine Hynes SC (partner, St John Solicitors),
  • Graham Kenny (principal, Graham Kenny Solicitors),
  • Stuart Gilhooly SC (partner, HJ Ward & Co),
  • Antoinette Moriarty (Law Society Director of Solicitor Services),
  • Tom Ward (Assistant Secretary, Courts Service), and
  • Rowena McCormack (partner, DAC Beachcroft).
