The Government has brought more parts of 2024 legislation aimed at reforming the planning system into effect.
The measures provide a statutory basis for the National Planning Framework (NPF) and Regional Spatial and Economic Strategies (RSESs).
A statement from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage said that chapters 1-4 of part 3 of the were commenced on Thursday 2 October.
The chapters include the replacement of section 28 ministerial guidelines with National Planning Statements, to be approved by the Government.
The department says that a review of existing ministerial guidelines is now underway.
It adds that the national statements will provide “clear, consistent national planning policies” that all regional and local authorities must follow.
The State’s three regional assemblies, which are made up of councillors, are now required to begin reviewing their RSESs to reflect the revised National Planning Framework (NPF).
“This action will align our Government priorities and what is planned for, on the ground, across each local authority from Dublin to Wexford to Clare,” said Minister for Housing James Browne.
Earlier this year, the Government published a timetable for the implementation of the 2024 legislation, which ran to more than 900 pages.
