The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) has launched a selection process for the appointment of two judges of the High Court.
It is to recommend up to five people to allow the Government to appoint two judges for one existing vacancy and one reasonably anticipated vacancy.
The commission, which was set up under the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2023, earlier this year.
Under the JAC system, three people are recommended to Government for a vacancy, while an additional two recommendations are made for a second and additional vacancies.
The application process for the High Court positions is now open, and the closing date for applications and references is 5pm on Thursday 6 November.
Applicants must register, complete, and submit their application through the online portal, which can be accessed from the commission’s website at .
The commission is encouraging applicants to contact their referee(s) as early as possible in the process to give them enough time to complete and submit the reference.

The commission is to conduct the process under a transitional arrangement, as provided for in the 2023 act, details of which are contained in outlining the selection procedure and the required knowledge, skills, and attributes of candidates.
This transitional arrangement will apply until a judicial-selection statement, required under section 75 of the 2023 act, is finalised.
