Addleshaw Goddard appoints disputes partner

International law firm Addleshaw Goddard has appointed Stephen Barry as a senior partner in its disputes practice in Ireland.

The firm says that the appointment adds to its expertise in planning, environmental law, and dispute resolution.

Barry joins Addleshaw Goddard from Eversheds Sutherland, where he spent over 20 years specialising in complex litigation and planning-and-environmental disputes, as well as regulatory investigations across the infrastructure, energy, and development sectors.

Increase in demand

The new partner has represented clients in several high-profile cases before the specialist Planning and Environmental Court, and has extensive experience advising developers, financial institutions, and private equity on all aspects of planning law.

Barry is also chair of the Health and Safety Lawyers Association and has handled various regulatory challenges – including health and safety, and industrial accidents.

Mark Walsh (head of Ireland Addleshaw Goddard) described the appointment as “another strong addition to our growing team in Ireland”.

He added that the firm was seeing a significant increase in demand for specialised advice as legislative changes in the Planning and Development Act 2024 were introduced.
