Technology conference to give AI overview

The annual conference of the Law Society’s Technology Committee later this month is aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of AI in the legal sector. 

The half-day event, organised by Law Society Professional Training, will take place on Wednesday 26 November (2pm to 5.30pm) at Blackhall Place, Dublin 7. 

A total of three CPD hours are available from attendance – one professional development and solicitor wellbeing, 1.5 general, and 0.5 client care and professional standards. 

The conference will explore the strategic use and application of AI tools in the modern legal profession. 

Practical uses  

The discussion will cover legal, ethical, and regulatory considerations, as well as cyber-security and accessibility requirements. 

There will also be examples of practical uses of AI by law firms and in-house teams, as well as an examination of the future of AI in the legal field

Chair of the Technology Committee Kate McKenna (head of legal, Frontline) will chair the conference. 

The speakers include:

  • Brian McElligott (partner and head of AI, Mason Hayes and Curran),
  • Labhaoise Ní Fhaoláin (solicitor and PhD researcher in AI law and regulation at UCD),
  • Elizabeth Fitzgerald (principal, Fitzgerald Tech Law),
  • Paul Delahunty (chief information-security officer, Stryve),
  • Caoimhe Grogan (A&L Goodbody Solicitors LLP and chair, DisAbility Legal Network),
  • Paula Fearon (partner and head of project-services group, McCann FitzGerald LLP),
  • Dermot Kelly (partner, TJ Hegarty LLP),Dr Andrew Hines (lecturer and assistant professor, School of Computer Science, UCD),
  • Sean Groeger (senior legal counsel, BNP Paribas),
  • Tanya Moeller (joint head, Technology Committee’s cyber-security sub-committee),
