Matheson LLP has appointed Marie McGinley as a partner in its technology-and-innovation group.
She will also head the division from 1 January next year, succeeding Anne-Marie Bohan, who has led the group since 2017.
The firm describes McGinley as “a recognised leader” in the technology and data-protection sector, with expertise in technology regulation, outsourcing, commercial contracts, information law, and data protection.
She also has extensive experience in cyber-security, crisis management, intellectual property, and consumer law.
The technology-and-innovation group has also recently added two new solicitors – Bridget Howard and Stephanie McCarthy – to a 20-strong team, which is led by four partners.
Matheson chair Patrick Spicer said that the appointment reflected the firm’s commitment to excellence and innovation in how it served internationally-focused multinational and domestic clients.
Co-head of Matheson’s corporate department David Fitzgibbon said that McGinley’s “deep sectoral expertise and leadership skills” would enhance the firm’s ability to deliver innovative solutions to clients.
McGinley said that she was joining the group at “a pivotal time” for the technology sector.
“The pace of change in areas like AI regulation, data protection, and cyber-security is unprecedented, and it presents both opportunities and challenges for our clients,” she stated.
