Conference to update on environmental issues

The annual Environmental and Planning Law Committee Conference later this month will provide an update on recent developments and topical matters in environmental-and-planning law and practice. 

Organised by Law Society Professional Training in collaboration with the committee, the event takes place on Thursday 13 November (2pm to 5.30pm) in Blackhall Place, Dublin 7. 

The conference includes a keynote address by Mr Justice Gerard Hogan. 

Attendance earns three general CPD hours by group study and registration is still open

Climate litigation 

Topics to be covered include: 

  • Developments in climate litigation: update on domestic case law and international review (assessing the impact of the case),
  • Enforcement: planning and peat extraction,
  • Bio-diversity and renewable energy: derogation licences, environmental assessments and the implications of recent cases and legislation, and
  • Planning and Development Act 2024: implementation update and review of key commencements

Committee chair Rachel Minch (Philip Lee LLP) will chair the conference.

  • Tom Ryan (director of the Office of Environmental Enforcement at the Environmental Protection Agency),
  • Paul Hogan (assistant secretary, head of planning, Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage),
  • Una Crosse (assistant director of planning, An Coimisiún Pleanála),
  • Fintan Valentine SC,
  • Dr Andrew Jackson (solicitor and assistant professor, UCD),
  • Dr Orla Kelleher (assistant professor, Maynooth University),
  • Suzanne Murray SC,
  • Dr Alison Hardiman (consultant, Philip Lee LLP), and
  • Mark Thuillier (partner, Arthur Cox LLP).
