‘Bitesize Briefing’ on children in legal system

Ombudsman for Children Dr Niall Muldoon is to speak at an online event organised by Law Society Professional Training later this month.

The live Zoom webinar on children in the Irish legal system will take place on Tuesday 18 November (1pm to 2pm).

The event, the latest in the ‘Bitesize Briefings’ series, is aimed at helping practitioners as they engage with children in different aspects of their work.

One CPD hour for client care and professional standards is available from attendance.

Practical experience

Dr Muldoon will review children’s rights and child-centred justice in the context of the Irish legal framework and international obligations and guidelines, as well as the practical experience of children in the legal system, child participation, and child-friendly information.

Practitioners across child, family, and juvenile justice cases will discuss their practical experience at the coalface and will consider best practice for professionals engaging with children who encounter the complex legal world.

Sinéad Kearney SC (partner, Byrne Wallace Shields) will chair the webinar.

The panellists are:

  • Eamonn Carroll (partner, Noonan Linehan Carroll Coffey LLP),
  • Donagh McGowan (principal, Donagh McGowan Solicitors), and
  • Niamh Kelly (solicitor, Michael J Staines & Co).
