Solicitor Bill Holohan SC has been reappointed to the board of the Charity Appeals Tribunal.
His reappointment, for a five-year term starting on 1 September, was made by Dara Calleary (Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht).
The solicitor is also chair of the Law Society’s Professional Indemnity Insurance Committee.
The tribunal is an independent statutory body that hears and adjudicates on appeals against certain decisions made by the Charities Regulator.
Established in 2016, it acts as an independent body to review decisions related to charity registration, name changes, and removal from the register of charities.
The regulator is bound by the decisions of the tribunal, which can be appealed to the High Court on points of law.
Section 79 of the provides that the tribunal may make its own rules of procedure.
