The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) has launched a selection process to fill current and upcoming vacancies in the District Court.
The competition covers vacancies for the 2025/26 period.
The commission is seeking to identify a pool of qualified candidates to fill one existing vacancy, as well as a series of anticipated openings expected to arise before 31 July 31 2026.
These include mandatory statutory retirements and "consequential vacancies" that may occur if sitting District Court judges are elevated to higher courts.
Established on 1 January 2025, the JAC replaced the former Judicial Appointments Advisory Board (JAAB) under the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2023.
Three names
For every vacancy, the commission recommends only three names to the Government, which is then legally bound to choose from that specific list.
This recruitment is being conducted under Section 60 of the cct.
The application process is entirely digital. Interested legal professionals with at least ten years of practice must submit their applications through the JAC’s online portal.
Each applicant is required to provide three references.
