Nominations for this year’s elections to the Law Society Council opened yesterday (19 August) and will close at 5pm on Tuesday 9 September.
As was the case last year, nominations and voting will be online only.
Comprising 31 elected members, four provincial delegates and 13 nominated members, the Council represents the Law Society and its members, both in the interests of the public and of the solicitors’ profession generally.
Council members play an important role in supporting and developing the future of the solicitors’ profession.
The Law Society is urging any solicitor who would like to contribute opinions and expertise to consider running.
Council member Sonya Lanigan recently told the Gazette that she got more out of her work on the Council than she put in, while fellow council member Stuart Gilhooly described his time on the body as “highly rewarding”.
Any solicitor holding current Law Society membership has the opportunity to put themselves forward for Council. If elected, the term is for two years.
Anyone interested in running for election or nominating a colleague should check that their membership and contact details are up to date.
Voting this year will open on 3 October, running until 5pm on 16 October. The results will be announced at the Law Society’s annual general meeting on 13 November.
