Data watchdog opens probe into CHI

The data-protection watchdog has begun an inquiry into the handling of personal data at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI).

The Data Protection Commission (DPC) said that the probe was linked to the physical safety and security of children’s health records within one specific CHI facility at Tallaght.

The DPC said that it became aware that there were potential issues at this site from a number of different sources of information – including through protected disclosures that it received, as well as a breach notification submitted by CHI.

Inspection

After reviewing the information, the DPC conducted an unannounced site inspection at the facility on 16 July.

“This formal inquiry will examine CHI’s compliance with their GDPR obligations, in particular relating to the security of personal data and the processes that CHI have in place for managing physical records at CHI (Tallaght),” the DPC said in a statement.
