The Courts Service has taken the latest step in its modernisation programme with the introduction of an internal Unified Case Management System (UCMS) for civil appeals in the Court of Appeal from yesterday (25 August).
UCMS is a back-office case-management system that allows court staff to manage cases.
The latest development is part of a multi-year initiative to migrate all case-related activity to a single UCMS, replacing multiple legacy systems with a single, modern, and user-friendly system that the courts body says will support all staff, county registrars, and members of the judiciary.
The process began with the system replacing the Circuit Court’s legacy family-law technology last year.
The courts body says that UCMS will streamline case-management processes, enhance operational efficiency, and improve service delivery for all court users.
It also lays the foundation for future developments – including an external-facing portal for court users that will enable legal practitioners to file documents, make payments, and serve documents online, eliminating the need for physical visits to court offices.
A portal has already been launched for Circuit Court family-law matters.
