Law Society Skillnet in collaboration with Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and Law Society of Ireland presents the 5th annual IMRO Copyright lecture recorded in 2024. Speakers include: Dr Mark Hyland, Law Society IMRO adjunct Professor of Intellectual Property, Mr John Phelan, Director General of the International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP), the global trade body for the music publishing industry, Professor Eleonora Rosati Full Professor of Intellectual Property Law at Stockholm University and Of Counsel at Bird & Bird, Mr Jeremy Godfrey, Executive Chairperson Coimisiún na Meán.

In this course, Brian McMahon sets out rules, advice and tips for writing in plain English and avoiding ambiguity. This course is designed to aid clear client communication and legal drafting, with a particular emphasis on contract drafting. Speaker: Brian McMahon is General Counsel at Atlantic IP Services. He is qualified as a solicitor in Ireland and England & Wales, and as an Attorney in California. He has a long-standing interest in plain English and the law. He works principally in the fields of litigation and commercial contracts both in-house and in law firms in Dublin, London and Silicon Valley.

Law Society Skillnet in collaboration with Oberstown Children Detention Campus presents this seminar, recorded in 2022, on Effective Advocacy for Young People. 
This seminar presents research on the perspectives of young people’s court experiences, highlights how these might be overcome and discusses how best to advocate effectively for young people in conflict with the law in a manner that protects their rights. Children who come into conflict with the law are known to have complex unmet needs often presenting with poor educational experiences, health concerns and trauma experience. These circumstances require committed advocacy on their behalf if they are to have access to justice and have their rights protected. The idea for this seminar came from the young people in Oberstown Children Detention Campus who say they do not understand what is going on in court. Chairperson: His Honour Judge John O’Connor.
